On March 31, 2007, selected chorus students from Brighton High School, Cottonwood High School, Hunter High School, Judge Memorial Catholic High School, Westminster College, and Whittier Elementary School, West Valley City, performed at the Jubilate Invitational Choral Festival at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City.
Former Utah Governor Olene Walker was the keynote speaker for this event and Gene Pack, film and stage actor and former voice of KUER and NPR, was the emcee.
The choirs combined for the finale, a premier of a work by an American composer, Mrs. Elva Avara. The piece, A New Song for America, was performed for the first time to a standing ovation. Mrs. Avara is a resident of Mississippi. Her town was inundated by Hurricane Katrina.
